Granite
Granite is the countertop material that defines elegance. Its pleasing, natural aesthetics make it a perennial favorite. It is inherently heat resistant and provides a strong surface that will deliver many years of faithful service. Since granite is a natural and porous material, it does require a sealant that periodically needs to be re-applied.
Engineered Stone / Quartz Surfacing
Engineered stone is a 93% quartz based counter surface material that is produced with cutting edge technology. A plethora of colors and textures offers bold sophistication that is unparalleled by other materials. Quartz is the 4th hardest mineral on earth; it is harder than granite, thus providing a durable, scratch resistant surface. It is inherently 100% non-porous, making it highly stain resistant.
Solid Surface
DuPont Corian, Wilsonart Gibraltar, Formica Solid Surfaces (formerly Surrell & Fountainhead), Staron, and Avonite, are among the most widely distributed solid surface products. The term "Solid Surface" refers to the seemingly mono block appearance of the material. Regardless of the overall size and shape of the countertop, the seams will range from inconspicuous to undetectable. This is only one of the many unique properties of solid surface that has made it one of the most widely requested countertop materials over the past 35 years.
Laminates
The term Formica has become synonymous with Laminate veneer; kind of like Kleenex to tissues. Plastic laminate is perhaps the most enduring man made counter surface in existence. In fact, most of us have had laminate at one time or another. Statistics reveal that it still captures 75% of the countertop market. The most recognized manufacturer of course is Formica. Other major companies producing plastic laminate are Wilsonart, Pionite and Nevamar, just to mention a few.
